Shopping for wedding bands……..
Do you know what to look for when shopping for wedding bands? Not all guys or gals do. And since there’s a lot to decide on when planning a wedding, sometimes the
wedding band is left to the last minute.
Yikes!
So where do you start? Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Is the idea of Made in America important to you? If so, consider doing a little research to find what bridal jewelry companies manufacture the bridal jewelry in America. If you have been considering an alternative metal ring, there’s a very good chance it hasbeen imported.
Do you REALLY think you’ll stay the same weight after you get married? According to research, approximately 82% of all couples gain weight after their marriage. In fact, a 2012 study showed women gain an average of 24 pounds in the first 5 years after marriage while their male counterparts gain on average 30 pounds in the same time.
If you gain or lose weight, your finger size will likely change. Precious metal rings can be resized. Alternative metals cannot. So you have two choices. Either choose a ring that can be refinished and sized. Or get a lifetime membership to the local gym!
Is value important to you? Precious metals have value. Like oil, the market value of platinum, palladium or gold goes up and down over time. An old ring can be sold as
scrap. Depending on the market activity, it’s possible to sell it for agood portion of what you paid for it.
Alternative metals are not really that valuable. In many cases, they are sold at wholesale for cheap, and marked up tremendously at the retail level.
