The Fifth Annual Lowcountry "Bluesberry" Jam & Blueberry Festival
June 21, 2015, 12 - 7 pm
Come on out to the fifth annual "Bluesberry Jam" and Lowcountry Blueberry Festival on Sunday, June 21, from 12 to 7 pm at Blue Pearl Farms for the most delicious blueberries in the Lowcountry and some of the region’s best blues musicians jamming on the stage by Cypress Pond. You can also try breaking the world record for the Blueberry Toss, currently 43 feet six inches: one person throws the blueberry, and the other catches it…in their mouth. Dads accompanied by their children get a free cup of blueberries at the gate.
This year’s Bluesberry Jam focuses on incredibly talented musical artists whose resumes include gigs with Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, Mick Taylor, Bobby Blue Bland, John Lee Hooker and Lee Shot Williams. Festival favorite Jig Wiggler opens up for Atlanta harmonica sensation Dr. Dixon Bh.D., “The Blues Physician,” and the Operators featuring Nature Boy Nik on guitar. Charleston bluesmen Jon Picard, Silent Eddie Phillips and Jojo Wall as High Gravity will jam on into the evening on the stage by Cypress Pond. Guest musicians will join in throughout the day.
The festival includes live music all day, demonstrations and mini-workshops, and will help fund the Sea Turtle Team working in the Cape Romain National Wildlife Preserve. Friends of Coastal South Carolina environmental guides and their ‘touch tent’ full of hands-on exploration activities help you discover some of the secrets of this rich environment.
Great food, local artists and artisans, the world famous Blueberry Toss competition, fun activities for kids, blueberry picking and prizes for the largest blueberry picked, and honey tasting fill out the day. Workshops on permaculture and food action, wild neighbors in the Lowcountry, blueberry management, the world of bees, the sea turtles of Cape Romain, and a blueberry recipe tasting and contest session take place under the market roof throughout the day.
This is an all ages event, and everyone is welcome. Please leave your pets at home. Bring a blanket or chairs to set up next to Cypress Pond. No outside alcohol or coolers; food, cold drinks, beer and wine available.
Tickets are $10 for adults and children 15 and under are free. Gates open at 11 am. A portion of the proceeds from the festival directly benefits the Friends of Coastal South Carolina local sea turtle conservation program.
