The strongest recorded storm in the Western hemisphere is expected to make landfall in southwest Mexico later today. The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Patricia is bringing 200 mph winds and up to 12 inches of rain. The center called Patricia "extremely dangerous" and "potentially catastrophic." Deadly mudslides and flooding is likely.

A state of emergency has already be declared in areas of Colima, Nayarit and Jalisco. Some evacuations were reported, but most residents appear to be preparing to ride out the storm in their homes.
