Death of Angels Pitcher Tyler Skaggs Leaves MLB World Shocked
Los Angeles Angles pitcher Tyler Skaggs died Monday July 1, 2019 at the age of 27. He had recently told a reported that he had dreamed of pitching in Dodger stadium against the Dodgers, while wearing his very own Angels uniform. Not only was he a pitcher, but he was also a husband and a son.
The game against the Texas Rangers was canceled after Skaggs was found unresponsive in his room in the team hotel. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. While authorities do not suspect foul play and the LA Times reporting that suicide is not suspected either, there has been no announcement for the cause of death.
The head of the MLB Players Association, Tony Clark, said in a statement, “The fraternity of players is stunned and saddened today by the untimely death of Tyler Skaggs, and we extend our deepest sympathies to Tyler’s wife, Carli, and the rest of his family, teammates and friends.”
More support came in on Twitter with people sharing their sympathy. The Los Angeles Angels @ Angels posted in a statement, “It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”
