Since 2001, AgForest of Georgia has been harvesting some of Georgia’s timber supply throughout various counties. Chris Polk, the owner of AgForest has recently acquired 208 acres in Jasper County through two separate acquisitions. One of the properties is 124 acres, while the other is 84 acres. Due to their highly efficient methods of timber harvesting, AgForest is quickly becoming one of the more well-known timber harvesters in the state of Georgia.

The services that will be performed on these two areas will both be a 1st thinning. A 1st thinning is the removal of trees from selected rows along with various selected trees on other rows as well. Typically every 3rd, 4th, or 5th row will be removed within a 1st thinning. The factors that determine whether or not the timber is removed is based off of the size of the timber on the tract. There are certain criteria that must be met in order for these trees to be removed. They must have a diameter of at least six inches and a live crown of 35 or lower. It takes time for trees to reach this point and usually it is around the 13-15 year mark.
