Corp. announced the launch of the new company, Seren Juno Network Co., Ltd. for
constructing and operating "JUNO", the new trans-Pacific submarine
cable system that links the US and Japan. JUNO serves the ever-growing digital
economy in the Asia-Pacific region by landing in Japan which is a "Data
Hub" located in the mid-point of the US and Asian countries. JUNO introduces
the leading-edge SDM (Space Division Multiplexing) technology to enable the 20
optical fiber pairs (40 cores) per cable, whereas the cable with the
conventional technology currently carries a maximum of 16 fiber pairs (32
cores). Juno provides the maximum capacity of 350Tbps, the largest among any
existing cable systems between the US and Japan.

Further, in July 2022, Southern Cross Cables announced the
launch of its Southern Cross NEXT cable, along with the implementation and
testing of 400GbE services across the 15,840km network. The NEXT cable will
support Southern Cross’ mission to enable reliable connectivity between the
people and communities of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands to the
rest of the world. It will provide submarine fibre connections to Tokelau and
Kiribati and reinforce Fiji’s growing role as a digital hub for the Pacific
Islands. Southern Cross collaborated with Ciena to successfully commission and
test the services error-free as part of the NEXT commissioning processes,
paving the way for the introduction of 400GbE services between Sydney, Auckland
and Los Angeles.
