Taking a Deep Dive into the IT Business
The IT business has known great popularity in the last decades, putting the IT companies at the top of the most sought after services worldwide. Nevertheless, the most important foundation was built in ancient times, as the earliest known form was the Abacus, being used for calculation in Mesopotamia or China (2400 BE); as far as the more recent history goes, Blaise Pascal’s “Pascaline” invented in 1642 was very helpful when it came to arithmetic, while Charles Babbage’s concept of a programmable computer (1837) are what started to give real meaning to computers and their ultimate use. Data input and storage were also detrimental in creating a new perspective and the idea was introduced by Joseph Jacquard in the early 1800s, but at the time it was especially designed for weaving looms, only later one becoming of real use for computers.
The next decades are what actually brought great breakthroughs as far as the IT business is concerned, creating with patience and perseverance a great network that has proven to be of use in every industry, paving the path to innovation and novelty. In this sense, IT companies started evolving in the late 1990s, managing to take on important issues and bring solutions to the table anytime it was deemed necessary. The importance of IT continues to be on the rise, as businesses are quite dependent on it considering the evolved world of nowadays and the advancements of the future.
The 20th century went through very important changes as far as the IT business is concerned, as it started to get closer and closer to the computer as a whole:
The breakthroughs of the 20th century regarding the IT business have had great and positive effects on the IT companies, as their evolution was mainly due to the need that arose as computers began being a greater part of everyday life. Therefore, whether an individual or a business, there came a day when everyone was either in need of a computer or in need of help when it came to using or troubleshooting it. All in all, the IT business is well known to have brought tremendous contributions to the smooth running of a computer, as it has helped ease the use of it, as well as empowered more people to get the hang of it.
The early pioneers of the IT companies emerged during the 1950s and the years that followed helped them create a clear and continually growing path for the future of IT, thus representing a very important part of the way in which society works. As the internet started gaining more and more space, as well as popularity in the 1990s, companies continued to provide users with improved experiences, therefore becoming one of the most sought after line of business.
With the passing of time, improvements kept on happening in the world of IT, creating space for the rise of the mobile and social media era in the 2000s, thus expanding into a realm that was previously unimaginable for many. This only goes to show how powerful evolution is and how much it can transform the everyday life. As far as the present days and the future ones are concerned, considering the progress artificial intelligence, for instance, has known, it is safe to assume that IT companies will continue to invest in the improvement of the already existing aspects that define them (cybersecurity, AI, quantum computers, etc.) so as to reach new heights.
Considering there has always been a fascination with what is often times called a “thinking machine”, it is not surprising that this concept is actually a tale as old as time, dating back to ancient times: Greek myths or early mechanical calculators. The actual creation of the concept of artificial intelligence happened in 1950s (John McCarthy), but it was not until the early 1990s that the machine learning era actually started. Although during the years there were a number of attempts in bringing AI to life, the researchers at the time did not have all the tools needed to bring such a concept to life in a way in which it could be beneficial. Therefore, neural networks were brought back to life only later, as there was already a space for better algorithms and an existing computing power that could make it all come to life.
The biggest development regarding AI happened after 2010 and keeps on happening in the present days, and also as far as the future is concerned, all due to deep learning programs, as well as generative AI or robotics being involved in the process.
IT is very likely to continue to surprise the whole world due to the many breakthroughs it will go through, creating amazing opportunities for evolution to follow its course. As far as the everyday life is concerned, IT is already a great part of it and will continue to surprise both businesses and individuals with the great amount of help it is able to offer.
In the years to come, the future is quite bright for the IT business, as there is a growing need for it with more and more companies being dependent on it for their cybersecurity, software solutions, data and analytics, as well as many more opportunities that only such professionals can offer.
