The new iPhone 3G hits AT&T and Apple stores Friday morning with brand-new upgrades and expanded phone capabilities.
According to reviews, the new iPhone 3G is faster and can do more due to its better capabilities, but the battery does not last as long as the original.
Among the new features, the iPhone 3G has a 3G network with speeds comparable to high-speed Internet, faster video and music downloads, GPS navigation, more complex games and upgraded applications.
The new iPhone 3G also allows users to move and delete multiple email messages, search for contacts, access a new scientific calculator, turn on parental control restrictions for specified content, save images directly from a web page or email them to your iPhone and easily transfer them back to your photo library on your Mac or PC.
The iPhone 3G network includes App Store, which provides iPhone users with native applications in a variety of categories. The App Store works on cellular networks and Wi-Fi.
iPhone 3G delivers 10 hours of talk time on 2G networks and 5 hours using 3G, with up to 5 to 6 hours of web browsing, up to 7 hours for video playback and up to 24 hours for audio playback.
Data plans for the new iPhone 3G are $10 more per month. There is an $18 upgrade and a $36 activation fee for existing customers. The monthly service fees range from $69.99 to $129.99, including data plans.
The new 8-gigabyte iPhone has a price tag of $199 for new and some existing customers, while the 16-gigabyte model costs $299. Both prices are with a two-year contract.
According to reports, there have been 6 million iPhones sold worldwide since the original was released on June 29, 2007.
AT&T, which reaps 100% of the monthly service plan, is anticipating the new iPhone due to its lucrative sales ability. The average monthly revenue from iPhone customers is almost double that from average AT&T customers.
