Microsoft
Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT)
has announced plans to open their own chain of retail stores that will sell
computers already installed with Microsoft software and products.
The
move is similar to what Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)
has successfully done and Microsoft will now try to replicate that success.
Along with selling computers, software and products Microsoft would also be
promoting its new operating system Windows 7 along with updates to its current
software and products.
Still
in its initial stages, there have been no announcements about when the stores
will open or where they will be placed.
Former
Wal-Mart executive David Porter will be heading up the new retail division.
Addressing
the decision to open the retail stores Microsoft’s chief operating officer
Kevin Turner stated, “There are tremendous opportunities ahead to create a world-class
shopping experience for our customers.”
