Charleston has become a “pitchin’ city” for cornhole enthusiasts interested in chasing the titles of Cornhole Champions during the ACO Season. This coming September will be no different as the ACO kicks Season XI into full gear. Charleston is hosting its third annual ACO West Virginia Major, as a part of the ACO Season No. 11 Major Series in the Heartland Division. The event will be held Friday and Saturday, September 11-12, 2015, at the Civic Center in downtown Charleston.
Samantha Carney, executive director of sports for the Charleston CVB, commented, “Over the years it has been exciting to see the ACO continue to grow the sport of cornhole and promote the cornhole movement. Our city is very proud to be part of a great tradition and elated to bring back year after year such a prestigious event to our community. This is a great weekend not only for the players traveling in from out of town but for all our hotels and local business community as well. This event is ‘PITCHIN FUN!’.”
The cornhole tournament in Charleston is one in a Series of Majors that will take place across the country as part of ACO Season 11, which runs from September 2015 through July 2016. The ACO is the governing body for the Sport of Cornhole, and is headquartered in Milford, OH.
ACO officials expect over 250 people in attendance Friday night and all day Saturday, for the ACO West Virginia Major. Gates open at 4:00 pm on Friday and 8:30 am on Saturday. Pay-as-you play “Luck of the draw” will be available Friday and Saturday for amateur players. There will be food, beer and music to enjoy. There is no membership required to play in the luck of the draw events, however a player must be an ACO Member to compete in the points tournaments. Spectators are free. An ACO membership runs $25.00 for a season.
Once a member, players can participate in both the World Singles and World Doubles competitions on Saturday for a small entry fee. Additionally, there will be a Senior Singles, Women’s Singles, and Juniors Singles. Eligible ACO Members can buy into Friday as well. The ACO feels right at home when coming into Charleston. We are extremely excited to keep the tradition alive and recognize Charleston as the ACO Capitol of Cornhole for the state of West Virginia,” says Frank Geers, President of American Cornhole, LLC.
The ACO and City of Charleston are actively seeking sponsorships, which could take place as banners, or signage on the Cornhole platform or turf area.
