Authorities in Iran say the death toll in Tuesday’s earthquake has risen from 4 to 30. Some 800 others were injured. No other details have been released.
"Up until now the earthquake has left behind 30 dead and 800 injured," said Bushehr governor Fereydoun Hassanvand.
The exact extent of damage is still unclear. Earlier, state-run media reported that Kaki, Shanbe and Sana were the hardest hit areas.
The 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck about 60 miles southeast of Bushehr near Kaki at a depth of 6.2 miles. Twenty-one aftershocks followed. The epicenter was located 55 miles from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Plant officials were quick to shoot down worries of damage to the reactor.
"The earthquake in no way affected the normal situation at the reactor, personnel continue to work in the normal regime and radiation levels are fully within the norm," said an official of Atomstroyexport, the Russian company that built the plant.
Governor Hasanvand also confirmed the plant remained safe.
