7 Americans Killed In Afghanistan Plane Crash
A civilian cargo plane crashed in Afghanistan Monday, killing all 7 Americans on board. The plane, run by U.S.-based National Air Cargo, was en route to Dubai, United Arab Emirates with a load of military cargo when it went down shortly after 3 p.m. local time. Lt. Quenton Roehricht with NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said the crash occurred “very shortly” after the plane left Bagram Air Base.
National Air Cargo said all 7 people on board were crew members. "This was a purely cargo flight and no passengers were aboard," the company said in a statement. "Cargo consisted of vehicles and routine general cargo."
Glen Joerger, president of National Air, called the crash a “devastating loss for our family” and promised the company will “work diligently with authorities to find the cause.” "Our focus at this time is on the family members of those we've lost, and on assisting the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority in their investigations,” Joerger added.
ISAF spokesperson denied the Taliban’s claim of responsibility for crash. No "enemy activity" was reported near Bagram at the time, according to the spokesperson.
