A fire at a hostel for the homeless in northwestern Poland has left at least 21 people and another 20 injured.
The fire broke out in the middle of the night and quickly spread through the three-story building located in the town of Kamien Pomorski, about 40 miles east of the border with Germany.
Many of the people inside the building were forced to jump from the top floors as the fire blocked all other exits. Parents inside the burning building could be seen tossing their children to firefighters below while emergency crews tried to rescue those unable to get to the windows.
Investigators are now sifting through the burnt-out remains of the building and have not said what caused the blaze. At least 77 people were registered at the hostel, many of whom were waiting to receive housing from local officials.
