Car Crash Which Killed Wife of Zimbabwe’s PM Morgan Tsvangirai Investigated
The
March car crash that killed the wife of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan
Tsvangirai is now being closely examined as investigators have hinted the crash
may not have been accidental.
Initially
thought to be an accident further investigation into the crash has led many to
believe that what unfolded may have been part of a plot to kill Tsvangirai. The
Movement for Democratic Change leader had just recently been sworn in as prime
minister following a power-sharing agreement forged with President Robert
Mugabe.
Mugabe
was not in favor of sharing power with Tsvangirai but he had few options as the
Zimbabwe was facing catastrophic problems with their economy, food supplies and
health sectors and international leaders demanded the inclusion of Tsvangirai
or sanctions would be imposed.
Now
investigators are looking into the accident as several aspects of the crash
have brought about more questions than answers. According to the investigation
Tsvangirai’s vehicle was being escorted by a Central Intelligence Organization
vehicle which, for no known reason, increased its speed and disappeared from
view. Just as that CIO vehicle was out of view a truck coming in the opposite
direction appeared and sideswiped the PM’s car, killing Susan Tsvangirai
instantly and injuring Morgan.
MDC
officials claim that no help was provided by CIO guards on the scene and when a
white farmer arrived and began to film the scene he was arrested and his
pictures were confiscated.
