Kevin Durant, Darren Collison Dropped from U.S. Team
SuperSonics rookie Kevin Durant and fellow Seattle teammate Nick Collison were cut from the U.S. Olympic qualifying roster on Monday as the team moved down to its 12-player limit in preparation for the FIBA Americas tournament that begins on Wednesday.
Rather than go with the cut and slash style of Durant and Collison USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo opted for strong perimeter shooting from Michael Redd and Mike Miller.
The 12-player roster now includes Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, Redd, Miller, Tyson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince and Deron Williams.
