Lil' Wayne Tops Nominations for 51st Annual Grammy Awards

Lil' Wayne leads all nominees with eight nominations for the 2009 Grammy Awards after the list was released Wednesday during a televised concert.

The list of nominees was announced at The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! - Countdown to Music's Biggest Night on CBS on Wednesday night.

Coldplay garnered seven Grammy nods, followed by Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West with six each. Krauss, Plant, John Mayer, Radiohead and Sullivan have five each.

Lil' Wayne's Tha Carter III is up for best album, along with Coldplay's Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, Ne-Yo's Year of the Gentleman, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Raising Sand and Radiohead's In Rainbows.

The Jonas Brothers, Duffy, Jazmine Sullivan, Adele and Lady Antebellum will battle for best new artist at the Grammys.

"Viva La Vida" by Coldplay will have to fend off M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes," Adele's "Chasing Pavements," Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love," and Plant and Krauss' "Please Read the Letter" for best record of the year.

"Chasing Pavements" and "Viva La Vida" are also up for best song of the year, along with "American Boy" (Estelle featuring Kanye West), "I'm Yours" (Jason Mraz) and "Love Song" (Sara Bareilles).

For Best Rock Album, the nominees are Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends by Coldplay; Rock N Roll Jesus by Kid Rock; Only By The Night by Kings Of Leon; Death Magnetic by Metallica; and Consolers Of The Lonely by the Raconteurs.

For Best Rap Album, the nominees are American Gangster by Jay-Z; Tha Carter III by Lil' Wayne; The Cool by Lupe Fiasco; Nas by Nas; and Paper Trail by T.I.
