Death Of Harvard Business School Student Nathan Bihlmaier Ruled An Accident

The Maine medical examiner's office has labeled the death of Harvard Business School student Nathan Bihlmaier an accident. An autopsy performed Wednesday determined Bihlmaier, who was supposed to graduate from Harvard this week, died of drowning. His body was pulled from Portland Harbor Tuesday, two days after he disappeared following an outing with friends.

"It's a tragic end. We had high hopes throughout working with the family and the community to bring Nate home. These weren't the circumstances that we wanted," said Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck.

Bihlmaier, 31, was last seen late Saturday night leaving Portland’s Ri Ra Irish Pub where he and two friends had been celebrating his graduation from Harvard. He was asked to leave the pub because he was too drunk. Bihlmaier’s friends reported him missing Sunday when he failed to return to their hotel.

"All we can do at a time like this is being strong for each other and the family and to have our hearts and prayers to whomever we believe in," Harvard Business School Dean Nitin Nohria said after Bihlmaier’s body was found.

Bihlmaier will be honored at Thursday’s graduation, Nohria added. Bihlmaier is survived by his wife, Nancy. She is pregnant with their first child.
