The third victim of Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon has been identified as a Chinese graduate student at Boston University. The Chinese Consulate in New York confirmed Tuesday a Chinese national had died, but at the request of the victim’s family, it did not release his or her name. Hong Kong-based broadcaster Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings reports the victim was a woman from Shenyang, a city in northeast China.
The Chinese Consulate also confirmed a second Chinese national, reportedly a friend of the person that was killed, was wounded in the blasts. That person is currently in stable condition at Boston Medical Center. "Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy," the Consulate said in the statement.
Deputy Consul General Ruiming Zhong is currently in Boston to support the victims and their families, and gather information.
The two other people killed in the bombings were identified earlier as 8-year-old Martin Richard and 29-year-old Krystle Campbell. Krystle’s father, William A. Campbell Jr., remembered his daughter as a “wonderful, wonderful girl” who was “always willing to lend a hand." "My daughter was the most lovable girl. She helped everybody, and I'm just so shocked right now. We're just devastated," he told Yahoo! News.
Martin’s father Bill Richard announced his son’s death in a statement, and also confirmed that wife Denise and daughter Jane suffered serious injuries. According to reports, Denise sustained a brain injury and Jane lost a leg. An older son was unharmed. "My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you,” Bill said Tuesday.
At least 176 people were wounded in the attack. Injuries range from severed limbs to embedded shrapnel.
