Chris Polk Owner of AgForest of Georgia LLC Hired to Shelterwood Cut 27 Acres in Putnam County, Georgia

Chris Polk of AgForest of Georgia has been hired in Putnam County, Georgia to perform a shelterwood cut. This means that timber is removed until only 30 to 40 trees per acre are left. The remaining trees are left because of their superior quality, health and seed production. This ensures a better evolutionary path for the next generation of trees. These trees will produce new growth on the property naturally. 
In four to eight years, new trees will be established and the timber that was left can be harvested to make room for new trees. These cuts typically yield good returns for landowners as well as benefit the wildlife.
