When I started the search for the right sippy cup I looked for a few features– a soft spout, handles, and a lid. I found all that in the Dood sippy cup by Joovy and decided to try it despite a few Amazon reviewers complaining of numerous parts and leaks. Here are a few initial thoughts:
1. There is 7 parts to keep up with. I don’t think the number of parts will be a big issue because we use Playtex’s Ventaire bottles (6 parts) so I’m accustom to constantly having to put those back together. The only issue I do see is the extremely small valve that fits under the spout. The valve is so small that it can slide out of the openings in our Munchkin and Playtex dishwasher baskets. I can see these valves constantly getting lost. As far as having to fit the parts on right in order to avoid leaks, I didn’t find it that hard or time consuming to put the cup together correctly. 2. The spout on the 7 ounce training cup is very soft and easy to drink out of. Vivienne drank on her very first try and didn’t seem to have any trouble. 3. The handles make the Dood easy for Vivienne to hold. You can also use the cup without the handles. 4. No leaks so far. This is probably the biggest concern I had, but so far so good. 5. The Dood is free of BPA, PVC, phthalate and lead.
Our cup hasn’t seen any heavy use yet so I can’t speak on durability. I’m looking forward to trying the insulated Dood, which features an insulator that keeps drinks cold or hot for a longer period of time.
