Genesis Recalls 8000+ G80 and G90 Models Over Loose Seal
Genesis has issued recall for 8,059 vehicles that affect the 2018 Genesis G80 and the 2017-2018 G90 over a loose seal that has to do with an oil supply line. The pipe assembly that delivers oil to the turbocharger “may have been produced with insufficient swaging pressure on the fitting located near its center union.” In layman’s terms what Genesis is saying is there is a loose seal at that location and if oil leaks out of that seal, it could theoretically cause an engine fire.
Genesis discovered this issue in February after receiving a report of an engine fire in Korea. Following this report, Hyundai Motor Company, which owns the Genesis brand, found five warranty claims in the US for oil leaks from the turbocharger’s oil supply line, and now has announced the recall.
Genesis dealerships will replace the turbocharger’s oil supply pipe with the updated component which will fix the issues. Owner’s should expect to receive recall notice in September.
