With the hot summer months approaching, soon convenience stores and supermarkets throughout the Northeast will stock their freezers with packaged ice. From the beach to the backyard barbeque, packaged ice has become an essential part of the summer experience, keeping food fresh and drinks cold.

Family-owned-and-operated for nearly a century, Nuzzolese Bros. Ice specializes in the manufacture and distribution of pure, quality packaged ice products. Their customers can be found all over Long Island, the five boroughs, Northern New Jersey and Southern Connecticut and include everyone from local bodegas, convenience stores and beer distributors to chain drug stores and supermarkets like Rite-Aid, CVS, King Kullen and Stop-&-Shop and JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Airports.

“The name Nuzzolese has become synonymous with the ice industry,” says Vincent Nuzzolese. “It didn’t come easy. It took four generations to get the business to where it is and you can lose it overnight, but we’re still here and at the top of our game.”

A relatively small industry, competition is fierce, especially in the Northeast where ice companies typically only have four months to generate their revenue. With the recent acquisition of Berkosi Ice, another family-owned company, and capacity to produce 225 tons of ice each day, Nuzzolese Bros. Ice is positioned to meet the incredible demand for its product and anticipates this year could be the company’s most successful in its history.

“If you need to make 80% of your money in those four months, that’s a gun to your head,” says Nuzzolese. “Hundreds of decisions need to be made. To really be successful in this industry, you have to be able to stop the ship on a dime and go just as fast the other direction. We have that ability.”

The water used to make Nuzzolese ice is bottle quality, purified and filtered twice before it’s ready to be frozen. Nuzzolese Bros. Ice is a member of International Packaged Ice Association, which ensures a healthy and safe product.
