Close-Up Talk Radio Spotlights Dr. Judith Loredo
Austin, TX – Life is a test. Each day we are faced with decisions to make that can have lasting effects on our future. It can be daunting enough for one to decide on what they want to achieve in their lifetime. The youth of today are truly at the mercy of a challenging job market. Competition is everywhere and everyone needs a leg up. Guidance can be of the utmost importance. With over 43 years experience in the public/higher education system, Dr. Judith Loredo has dedicated her life to the enhancement of each and every student she meets.
“No matter what your challenges or obstacles are, they can be overcome. You can achieve all of your dreams in whatever they may be,” exclaims Loredo. “For my own experience, I faced a variety of difficulties in a sheltered education until my college years. I had made it through school with a false impression.”
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Loredo overcame a number of educational hurdles including reading comprehension, which went unnoticed until her parents were determined and successful in teaching her how to read. Dr. Loredo went on to rise above the challenges she faced and built an extensive educational and professional background.
Her educational credentials include earning a Bachelor’s in Communication Disorders, a Master’s in Speech Pathology, a Master’s in Education, and her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas in Austin, where she was named the 20th recipient of the Dean Carl Brent Award as the Distinguished Graduate of the College of Education. This is one of many awards that Dr. Loredo has received through her diligence and the results that her service has produced over her illustrious career.
Professionally, Dr. Loredo’s incredible list of personal achievements and successes includes positions in speech therapy, early childhood special education teacher, early childhood program director, Director of Special Education, Superintendent of schools in the San Antonio Southside School District, Assistant to the Commissioner of Professional Development at the Texas Education Agency, Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency, Consultant in the Division of Compensatory Education at the Texas Education Agency, Assistant to the Director of the Cooperative Superintendency Program at the University of Texas at Austin, and Tenured Professor in the Department of Education and Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dean of Academic Support Programs at Huston-Tillotson University.
Currently, Dr. Loredo is the Assistant Commissioner of the Division of P-16 Initiatives with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. “I oversee the division that is responsible for bridging the gap between public education K-12th Grade and higher education. In today’s world, it’s imperative for kids to compute beyond high school.”
In addition to an impressive workload, Dr. Loredo also finds time to give back to the Austin community, serving on the Board of Worries and Wonders, Con Mi Madre, the Academic Committee of St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, the Advisory Board of San Juan Diego Catholic High School, and a Founding Board Member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic School.
“I didn’t come from a golden spoon. I’m not embarrassed by limitations. I’ve worked since I was 15 years old. I never gave up and I was fortunate that there were people that believed in me. I faced many closed doors but found another way to open them. Kids need to find that capacity and that’s what I share with them.”
Dr. Judith Loredo will be featured on Close-Up Talk Radio with host Jim Masters at www.blogtalkradio.com/closeuptalkradio on Saturday June 22nd at 11am EDT.
