P.C. Richard & Son isn’t just a home appliance/electronics store; it's a Long Island institution. “Honesty, integrity and reliability,” says company president Gregg Richard. “That’s the culture of this company. We don’t know any other way. And throughout the years we’ve maintained that philosophy and promoted that culture and it’s what’s brought us to where we are today.”
Still family-owned and operated the company currently has over 50 locations throughout the Tri-state area. Generation after generation, families have grown up with P.C. Richard & Son and its close ties to Long Island. The relationships they’ve established within each store’s community has allowed this large, successful but still regional company to compete with the national superstores.
“We have to be different because there are simply too many places to buy the products we sell,” says Richard. “So we need to give our customers a reason to buy from us.”
The most obvious reason is the relationships P.C. Richard & Son builds with its customers. According to Richard it’s about treating every potential sale as an opportunity to make a loyal customer forever.
“Our competitors are all located within relatively close proximity to our stores so why do they still shop with us?” asks Richard. “It’s the environment and the culture. There’s a trust. If there’s a problem the salesman is taking care of it himself. There’s training with drivers and training for the warehouse, training in all aspects of our business to improve the quality and ultimately improve the customer’s experience.”
