T-Mobile seems to be waging a battle with Sprint on who is number three. Telecom Analyst Jeff Kagan asks, does it really matter?
Who is in number three position, Sprint or T-Mobile? The real question is does it matter and who cares?
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“Let Sprint and T-Mobile both continue to grow and improve, quarter after quarter and keep the customer happy, and the investor will be happy as well.” Says Analyst Jeff Kagan.
Both
AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless have been winning for so many
years the user loses count. These two companies battle it out for number
one and number two.
“However the truth is customers and prospective
customers don’t really care. They see both as great competitors. They
don’t buy because one is number one or two. They buy for other reasons
like network coverage, quality and price.” Says Kagan.
Now T-Mobile and Sprint are battling it out for number three and number four. The traditional list has been AT&T and Verizon in number one and two depending on the year. Sprint was always number three and T-Mobile number four.
T-Mobile lost their way several years ago and fell way back. Recently T-Mobile has gotten their winning momentum back and they have been growing.
Sprint has been struggling over recent years as well, but now under new CEO and VP of marketing, the company seems to be in the early stages of building a growth wave themselves.
“Going forward I see both Sprint and T-Mobile continuing to grow, but I really don’t see any value in whether either is number three or four.” Says Kagan.
Bottom line, things have not changed. Things are still the same as they always have been. AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless are number one and two. Sprint and T-Mobile are number three and four.
“Today I would say AT&T and Verizon are tied for the number one position and Sprint and T-Mobile are tied for the number three position.” Says Kagan.
"So what does that mean exactly to the customer? Not much. I think it makes the executives feel better, but the customers don’t really care about these details.” Says Kagan.
Let Sprint and T-Mobile both continue to grow and improve, quarter after quarter and keep the customer happy, and the investor will be happy as well.
