Bachelor After The Final Rose Recap: Ben Embarrassed By Courtney
Ben Flajnik’s Bachelor fairytale with Courtney Robertson didn’t last long. On the After the Final Rose special, Ben admitted he was embarrassed after watching Courtney’s cruel antics. Calling his Bachelor journey “a rough ride,” Ben revealed he and Courtney briefly split while the show was airing.
"The woman that I saw on TV isn't the Courtney that I know. Those are the moments and the instances that led to Courtney and I not talking for a time while the show aired. We were essentially broken up,” he told host Chris Harrison.
Ben also blamed tabloids and backlash from fans for his problems with Courtney. "There was never anything wrong with us," he said. "What's wrong was everything that surrounded us."
As for recently published pictures apparently showing him kissing other women, Ben swore on his father’s grave it was simply “tabloid fodder.” "Those are friends from San Francisco, those are past photos, these are things that are just tabloid fodder,” he said. “I'm not kissing those women in those photos.”
For her part, Courtney said she is responsible for much of the backlash, but still feels Ben should have stuck by her. "It was awful,” she said of their brief split. “There were days where I didn't leave the house, and I just laid there and cried ... He abandoned me. I gave [him] space and I was trying to be as understanding as possible, but I needed him."
Although Courtney was not wearing her ring and seemed confused about the status of their relationship, Ben insisted they are still engaged and “in a good place.” "Now that the main part of the show, and all the negativity is gone, it can only get better,” he said.
He also apologized for splitting when things got tough and presented Courtney with her engagement ring. “As an engaged couple and as a man, I feel like I should have stayed with you the entire way as opposed to taking steps back and needing time apart. That wasn't fair to you. That was my coping mechanism, but you know me. That's not how I operate in real life, and we're about to start real life,” he added.
