Sony has had issues in the past when it comes to online hackers. The Playstation Network has been hacked multiple times and now it seems they are back at it again, and this time they are stating their demands. The reason behind the hack may come as a surprise to some as it involves a movie that will be released this year on Christmas Day.
On Monday the group known as the “Guardians of Peace” posted “Stop immediately showing the movie of terrorism which can break the regional peace and cause the War!”
The movie they are referencing is “The Interview”. The movie that features Seth Rogen and James Franco has been controversial ever since the title started production. Reason for the controversy is due to the plot of the movie where Rogen and Franco are reporters that have been sent to North Korea by the CIA do assassinate the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea expressed their views in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon stating “The Interview” is an “undisguised sponsoring of terrorism, as well as an act of war.”
The hackers have made their demands that the movie be shut down or “else”. What that means remains to be seen but the threat doesn’t seem to be stopping Sony from releasing the political satire comedy. The premiere of the movie is set to take place on Thursday in Los Angeles. Rogen and Franco have still been making their typical rounds of interviews and appearances in order to promote the movie.
