Doobie Brothers Drummer Michael Hossack Dies
Longtime Dobbie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack has passed away after a battle with cancer. Doobie Brothers manager Bruce Cohn released a statement saying Hossack died Monday at his Dubois, Wyoming home. Hossack, 65, is survived by two children.
“We’re posting this to confirm the sad news that’s been circulating very quickly. Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack passed away yesterday in Dubois, Wyoming, at the age of 65. His family was by his side. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones. We will miss him greatly. A more formal announcement will be posted to follow,” said a statement on the band’s website.
The Doobie Brothers were originally formed by John Hartman, Tom Johnston and Greg Murphy in 1970. Hossack joined the group in 1971, but left two years later to focus on helping charities that supported Vietnam war veterans. He rejoined the Doobie brothers in 1987 and remained with them until 2010. The band currently includes Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, John McFee, John Cowan, Guy Allison, Marc Russo, Tony Pia and Ed Toth.
Doobie Brothers hits that feature Hossack include “Jesus Is Just Alright," "Listen to the Music,” "China Grove,” and “Blackwater.”
