Singer Phoebe Snow Dies at 60
Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Phoebe Snow has died at the age of 60. According to reports, Snow passed away Tuesday in Edison, New Jersey from complications relating to a brain hemorrhage she suffered in January 2010.
Snow began her career in 1972 after signing a contract with Shelter Records. Her fist record, titled Phoebe Snow, was released in 1974 and became one of the most acclaimed debut records of that time. Snow is perhaps best known for her hit single ‘Poetry Man.’ She collaborated with numerous musicians, including Jackson Browne, Donald Fagen and Paul Simon.
Snow gave birth to her only child, a daughter named Valerie, in December 1975. Her career suffered because her main focus became caring for Valerie, who had severe brain damage. Valerie died in March 2007 at the age of 31. "Occasionally I put an album out, but I didn't like to tour. But you know what? It didn't really matter because I got to stay home more with Valerie and that time was precious,” Snow told the San Francisco Chronicle in 2008.
