American Idol Recap: Carole King Night
Last night’s episode of American Idol was devoted to songs by Carole King. The top 6 contestants performed individually and in pairs.
After weeks of landing in the bottom 3, Jacob Lusk knew he had to do better this week. He sang “Oh No Not My Baby.” Steven Tyler loved that Jacob finally moved around on stage. Jennifer Lopez pointed out that Jacob’s vocals weren’t perfect, but he improved towards the end of the song.
Lauren Alaina pushed herself a little more this week and the judges loved it. She sang “Where You Lead.” Jennifer was proud of her for stepping out of her comfort zone and pushing herself. Randy Jackson liked Lauren’s “extra swagger.”
After a mediocre performance last week, Scotty McCeery earned praised from the judges for his rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend.” Steven said Scotty “never sang better.” Randy liked the notes at the beginning of the song.
James Durbin delivered the best performance of the night. He sang “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” Jennifer said the performance was “magical” while Randy said James has a good chance of winning the whole competition.
Judges did not have anything bad to say about Casey Abrams and his version of “Hi De Ho.” Steven declared it the “best mother lovin’ show I’ve seen” while Jennifer praise Casey’s perfect vocals.
Hailey Reinhart got mixed reviews for her rendition of “Beautiful.” Randy was not a fan of the beginning of the performance, but he thought the end was great. Jennifer liked the entire thing and said Hailey has one of the best voices in the competition.
Jacob and James were paired for a duet. They sang “Something Tells Me I’m into Something Good.” Steven, who is normally positive even when judging bad performances, thought the performance was a mess.
Hailey and Casey were excited to growl together on stage. Steven did not give any real comments on the performance; he just asked how in love Casey is with Hailey.
Lauren and Scotty were paired and performed “Up on the Roof.” Jennifer Lopez said Hailey sang her “brains off.” She thought the performance was beautiful.
