Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver Separate
After 25-years of marriage, Arnold Schwarzenegger and
Maria Shriver have separated. The couple announced their split in a joint
statement on Tuesday.
“This has been a
time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a
great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision
together,” the pair said. "At this time, we are living apart, while we
work on the future of our relationship."
Schwarzenegger and Shriver say they “are continuing to
parent” their four children, ages 21, 20, 18 and 14. “We consider this a
private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have
further comment,” the added. “We ask for compassion and respect from the media
and the public."
Shriver, 55, and Schwarzenegger, 63, met in 1977 and wed
in 1986. Schwarzenegger, whose second term as the governor of California ended
in January of this year, recently announced his return to acting. He will
reportedly begin filming on the drama “Cry Macho” this summer.
