Survivor Redemption Island Season Finale: The Winner Is Crowned
The season finale of Survivor: Redemption Island started off with Grant heading to Redemption Island after his blindside to join Andrea, Matt and Mike. The four then competed in the final duel, which would determine who reentered the game. The duel was an endurance challenge. Each castaway had to use one leg to balance a vase on a board. Grant is the first to be eliminated and he is followed by Matt. It comes down to Andrea and Mike. Andrea wins and rejoins the tribe to compete in the second to last immunity challenge.
Back at camp Rob is determined to get Ashley out because she would be a big threat in the finals. Ashley senses that she could be the next to go so she makes Natalie promise to tell her if Rob plans to vote her out. Andrea realizes she must team up with Natalie and Ashley to survive. She tells them that everyone on Redemption Island said they would vote for Rob or Phillip over the girls.
For the immunity challenge, each castaway must cross a balance beam and untie four bags of numbers. The first person to place their numbers in order from 1 to 100 on their table wins immunity. Rob’s plan to eliminate Ashley falls through when Ashley wins immunity. Ashley’s win ensures Andrea will be sent packing. At tribal council, Rob plays it safe and uses his hidden immunity idol, but it turned out that he did not need it. Andrea was sent to the jury.
For the final immunity challenge, the castaways had to run through a giant maze and collect four bags of puzzle pieces, which would be used to complete a puzzle. Only Rob and Ashley were really in the challenge because Phillip and Natalie fell too far behind to win. Rob and Ashley started on their puzzle at the same time, but Rob finished first and won immunity. Back at camp he had to convince Natalie to break her word to Ashley and vote her out. Natalie went through with the plan and Ashley became the final member of the jury.
After the final votes were cast, Rob Mariano was declared the winner of Survivor: Redemption Island. He also won the $100,000 prize for fan favorite. "I played my heart out. I love this game, but you've got to get lucky along the way, too. I know what it takes. It's really, really difficult. I'm really, really happy things happened the way they did this time,” Mariano told the Associated Press after his win.
