American Idol Recap: Final 3 Perform
It is an important week on American Idol for the final 3 contestants – their performances and fan votes will determine which contestant will be sent packing and which two contestants will move on to the finale. Each contestant performed three songs; one of their choice, one judge’s choice and one choice by Jimmy Iovine.
The night belonged to Hailey Reinhart. She sang Led Zeppelin’s “What is and What Should Never Be” for her pick. She fell during the middle of her performance, but picked herself up and kept going. All three judges loved it. Randy Jackson dubbed it one of her best performances ever while Steven Tyler said it was “superb.”
For the Jimmy Iovine’s choice Haley sang “Rihannon” by Fleetwood Mac. Randy said her pitch was perfect throughout the entire song. Jennifer Lopez said it was one of the best performances of the season.
Haley performed Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” for the judge’s pick. Randy loved the “amazing choruses. Steven thought Haley was “amazing.”
Lauren Alaina also proved she is “in it to win it,” according to Randy. She chose “Wild One” by Faith Hill for her pick. Jennifer loved that she “attacked” the song. Both Steven and Randy loved the “fun” factor Lauren brought to her performance.
For Jimmy’s choice Lauren performed “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry. Jennifer said Lauren has the most beautiful tone out of the finalists. Randy loved the song choice.
Judges picked “I Hope You Dance” by LeAnn Womack for Lauren’s final performance. Jennifer said Lauren gave her “goosies from head to toe.” Randy declared Lauren “slayed” the song.
Scotty McCreery also had a good night. He chose to sing “Amazed” by Lone Star for his pick. Randy pointed out pitchy places, but loved the end. Jennifer said Scotty has showed the most improvement over the season.
For Jimmy’s choice Scotty sang Thompson Square’s “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?” Randy compared Scotty to the great Garth Brooks while Jennifer said she loved several moments in the performance.
For the judge’s pick Scotty sang “She Believes In Me” by Kenny Rogers. Steven loved the chorus because it “put it over the top.” Randy praised him for the notes he hit.
