Bachelorette Recap: Ashley Devastated After Bentley Leaves
It was an emotional week for Bachelorette Ashley Hebert – first she endures a roasting where William takes his jokes too far, and then Bentley decides to leave. Before the date gone wrong and Bentley’s departure, Ashley takes Ben C. on the first one-on-one date. They participate in a flash mob before having an intimate dinner. Ben receives the date rose.
Before the group date, Jeff decides to take off the mask he has been wearing since night one. The reveal leaves Ashley unimpressed. “He’s a lot older than I thought he was,” she says.
Ames, Ben F., Chris, Blake, Jeff, Lucas, Nick, Ryan, William, and Bentley go on the group date. They are taken to the Comedy Store in Los Angeles where they get to roast Ashley. The guys must come up with their own jokes. Most of the guys take lighthearted jabs at the other guys, but that was not the case for Bentley and William. Bentley makes numerous jokes about Ashley’s chest and William makes comments about expecting the Bachelorette to be Emily or Chantal. “They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” he says. “I mean, I thought I signed up to be with Emily or Chantal, and then Ashley’s here … Really, who gives a s***?”
Ashley barely makes off stage without breaking down in tears. Bentley runs backstage, telling the cameras he will take the opportunity to “mess with her head.” He succeeds in making Ashley believe he is falling for her and insults her without her even knowing. "With 25 guys, I promise you, at least 24 of them were really excited it was you,” he says. Ashley later confronts Bentley about his ex-wife saying he went on the show for the wrong reasons. Bentley insists those claims are not true, and Ashley buys in to his excuses.
The next morning Bentley leaves. He tells Ashley that he misses his daughter and needs to go home. Bentley says he wants to “keep the dot-dot-dot,” meaning he does not want to officially end their relationship. Ashley is heartbroken and can’t stop crying.
Ashley is still down when JP’s one-on-one date rolls around. He tries to cheer her up, but she clearly wants to be alone. Ashley goes through with the date anyway and gives JP the date rose.
She still is not in the mood to socialize when the time comes for the cocktail party and rose ceremony. Chris Harrison cancels the cocktail party for her and informs the guys that Ashley will go through with the rose ceremony. Williams is convinced he is going home, but Ashley surprises him when she gives him the last rose. She sends Jeff and Chris packing.
