E Street Band Musician Clarence Clemons Suffers a Stroke
Musician Clarence Clemons has reportedly suffered a stroke. Multiple news outlets report the saxophonist and member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band suffered the stroke Sunday night at his Florida home. He is reportedly hospitalized in serious condition. No other details were available.
Clemons, 69, began performing with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in 1972. He worked on 20 albums with Springsteen and most recently worked with Lady Gaga on her Born This Way Album. He appears on two tracks with Gaga and performed live with her on the season finale of American Idol. Clemons also has numerous film and TV credits, including the film “New York, New York” and the hit HBO TV show “The Wire.”
After news of Clemons’ stroke broke, Lady Gaga asked fans to make “get well videos.” "Little monsters, my very close friend + musician on The Edge of Glory, Clarence Clemons is very sick. Can we all make some get well videos?" she Tweeted.
Clemons suffered numerous health problems in recent years. The musician underwent spinal fusion surgery and then double knee replacement surgery in 2008, but vowed to perform as long as he was able. "As long as my mouth, hands and brain still work I'll be out there doing it,” he said.
