Producer Laura Ziskin Dies of Cancer
Successful Hollywood film producer Laura Ziskin has died after a long battle with cancer. According to a statement from the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the 61-year-old passed away Sunday at her Santa Monica home. Ziskin battled breast cancer for 7 years. She is survived by her partner, Alvin Sargent, and her daughter with ex-husband Julian Barry.
Ziskin began her career in the 70s and earned her first producing credit in 1985 on the comedy Murphy’s Romance starring Sally Field. She went on to produce hits films like Pretty Woman, As Good As It Gets, Fight Club and The Thin Red Line. Ziskin is best known for her work on the Spider Man films. She was involved with the upcoming fourth Spider Man film starring Andrew Garfield, The Amazing Spider Man, at the time of her death.
Ziskin, Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, Ellen Ziffren, the Entertainment Industry Foundation and the Noreen Fraser Foundation founded Stand Up To Cancer in 2008. The program helps raise money for cancer research.
