Socialite Beata Boman Arrested For Stealing $11K Scarf
Manhattan socialite Beata Boman was arrested Tuesday evening after she walked out of a luxury store in Connecticut with an $11,000 fur-lined scarf. Police say the security director of Richards of Greenwich witnessed the 38-year-old, who was once romantically linked to Prince Andrew, take the scarf and leave the store.
The security director called police as he followed Boman down the street to a Starbucks. After her stop at the coffee shop, Boman began walking back towards Richards. A police report says an officer stopped Boman before she made it to the store. Boman “admitted that she stole [the scarf] and was going to return it," the report says.
Boman was charged with first-degree larceny. She was released from jail after posting $5,000 bail. Boman’s attorney, Mark Sherman, told the Greenwich Times that his client accidentally walked out with the scarf during a phone call in which she was "consoling a friend about to have brain surgery.”
“Anybody who knows Beata knows she has no need and no reason to steal anything,'' Sherman said. “This was a mistake, plain and simple. There was no crime here and there was no intent to steal the scarf."
