Fattest States Reveals Growing Problem in Southeast
According to a new study residents in the southeast have a hard time putting down their forks as the top ten fattest states are dominated by the region.
Mississippi has the distinct honor of becoming the first state to eat its way past the 30 percent plateau. That 30.6 percent achieved by Mississippi represents the number of adults considered obese in the Deep South state.
Following closely in a survey no state wanted to top was West Virginia. The Mountain State posted a 29.4 obesity rate among its adult residents, a few pork rinds more than Alabama which registered a 29.4 percent obese population.
The next five fattest states all carried a 27 percent obese rate or higher in the new study. Louisiana came in as the fourth fattest state with a 28.2 score while South Carolina and Tennessee shared the fifth spot at 27.8 percent. Kentucky scored a 27.5 percent for adults considered obese and Arkansas followed at 27 percent.
Indiana, Michigan, and Oklahoma rounded out the top eleven with an obesity percentage among adults at 26.8.
For those residents of Colorado the survey showed the state to be the fittest in the country with an obesity percentage at 17.6.
