LOOMING PRICE TAG FOR MAC BUILDING REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

It could take two and a half times the construction cost of the Mac main fire station to fix it and bring it to current seismic standards.  City council last night received an initial preview of what's believed to be the first comprehensive building analysis of the 57 buildings the city owns.

One question both the city and county are pondering is if it would be more cost effective and efficient to consolidate most operations in a central location.    No final decision yet.

Another interesting fact.  The McMinnville city hall is in a two story house built in the 1940's and would take more than a million dollars worth of repairs to bring it to current standards.   That too, is causing city staff the council to wonder if another option would be better.

City Manager Jeff Towery gave the council a brief look at the report headlines and said this is a discussion that will continue for the next year or longer as the city maintians it's buildings and trys to get ready for the earthquake event experts warn is likely sometime in the next 50 years.
