Did you know that James Island is most noted for being the starting location of The Civil War? On April 12, 1861 the Confederates at Fort Johnson began firing on the Union-occupied Fort Sumter, which are both on the island's north shore. History buffs may already know that in the 19th century, plantations were built on James Island. The village of Secessionville became a summer retreat for plantation owners. 

If you're a big fan of the hit HGTV show "Fixer Upper" then you may be looking for an older home that's rich with history to fix up or improve.
