About Song For The Philippines
On November 8, 2013, the
Philippine Islands were devastated by the monster Typhoon Haiyan. Local
musician Tommy Gielingh had friends in the islands that perished. His
passion for humanity and pain of losing loved ones prompted him to write
“The Song for the Philippines”. Over 100 local Charleston musicians
gathered together to record the song last year.
This year, to bring awareness
to the cause and raise funds for the survivors, “The Song for the
Philippines Music Festival” will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014
from 1pm-11pm at the Brick House Kitchen on Folly Road.
Legendary
recording artist John Ford Coley will perform.
Ford Coley is best known
for his collaboration with Dan Seals (of Seals and Crofts) in the
musical duo England Dan and John Ford Coley. The duo is best known for
songs like “We’ll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again” and “I’d Really Love
to See You Tonight”. Overall they had four top tens and two top
twenties. They were nominated for a Grammy award, received triple-platinum and gold records and released 8 albums. Coley plays with groups and artists including Ambrosia and Terry Sylvester (formerly of The Hollies) and rides the bill with numerous other acts including Three Dog Night, Lou Gramm (of Foreigner), Christopher Cross, Poco, Stephen Bishop, Al Stewart, Edgar Winter and others. Ford Coley released the live album “Live from the Philippines” in 2009.

Charleston area favorites Hi-5, Gino Castillo Funkubanized, Lee Barbour
& Ron Wiltrout, CODA, Gaslight Street, International Morality, The
Jamisun Trio will also play during the day-long festival.
Local
visual and performance artists, food vendors, a silent auction and a
raffle will round out the event. All profits will go to the typhoon
affected areas in the Philippines.
