Unopened Nintendo Video Game From 1987 Could Fetch $10,000
A 1987 Nintendo Video Game ‘Kid Icarus’ was uncovered in its original packaging, still sealed, with the receipt from JC Penny for $38.45 in an attic. Scot Amos was clearing out h is childhood home’s attic and found this copy of the video game, which he now has learned could sell for $10,000.
Valerie McLecki, a video game consignment director at Heritage Auctions stated, “To find a sealed copy 'in the wild,' so to speak, not to mention one in such a nice condition and one with such transparent provenance, is both an unusual and rather historic occurrence. We feel that the provenance will add a significant premium for serious collectors.”
She also went on to say that there are fewer than 10 copies of this game in the hands of vintage video game collectors.
The purchase date on the receipt marks December 8, 1988, the game was released in December of 1986 in Japan, in February of 1987 in Europe, and July of 1987 in North America.
