Largest Ocean Cleanup Record Set By 633 Divers Who Collected 1,600 Pounds Of Trash
The Guinness World Record for the world’s largest underwater cleanup was just set by 633 drivers who got together, donned wetsuits and masks, and collected 1,600 pounds of trash at the Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier in Florida.
While the exact number of recovered garbage is still being calculated, with experts expecting it to grow, the current numbers are 1626 pounds of trash and 60 pounds of fishing line recovered from the ocean floor.
City officials have announced they will be recycling what they can and properly disposing of all of the collected ocean waste.
This is the fifth annual cleanup that was orchestrated by the ‘Dixie Divers’ and the Deerfield Beach Women’s Club. The previous world record holders was held by an underwater cleanup that was held in Egypt in 2015 with 614 divers.
