Politicians in Dreams can be About Manipulation Says Dream Analyst David Rivinus

Dreamers who dream about politicians could be struggling with issues of personal honesty. That is according to dream analyst, David Rivinus. As Rivinus explains it: now that the national election campaign season is in full swing, there may be more dreams about politicians. “Dreams often make use of images from the dreamer’s daily life,” he says. 

If a dreamer is working on a personal issue it will be expressed through symbols. If the conflict is about personal integrity or trust, it could be expressed in a dream about politics. “It depends on what your attitude is toward politicians,” says Rivinus, “but if you are like many people, you associate politics with some suspicion.” That, according to Rivinus, is enough to cause a dream to use the image of a politician if the dreamer is struggling with issues of trust. 

As an example, Rivinus relates the case of a dreamer who was conflicted about a work decision she had to make. She was offered a choice of promotions. One prospect was a quiet advancement that was secure but unexciting. The other was a more glamorous possibility. However, the glamorous option would involve usurping a friend who had earned the right to the job more than the dreamer had. She found herself wondering how she might take the glamorous position while making it look as if she had not manipulated the promotion away from her friend. 

“One night she had a dream in which two people were vying for her friendship,” says Rivinus. “One was a rather plain, but loving grandmotherly type. The other was a really handsome, dashing politician.” 

Rivinus explains that although dreams can offer a direct solution to a dilemma, most of them simply restate the conflict through symbols. “Both the grandmother and the politico represented aspects of the dreamer’s own thoughts,” he says. “And when the dreamer carefully examined the two figures, her own thought process became obvious: one of her choices was sincere, the other was a manipulation.” Rivinus hastens to add that there is nothing wrong with choosing a glamorous job. The issue that the dreamer was grappling with had to do with personal honesty. “That’s where the dream was helpful.”
