As Hurricane Maria continues to pound Puerto Rico, a spokesman for Governor Ricky Rossello says "total devastation" is anticipated. "This is total devastation. Puerto Rico, in terms of the infrastructure, will not be the same," said spokesman Carlos Mercader.
Maria, a category 4 hurricane, made landfall around 6:15 a.m. today at Yabucoa. Pounding rain and winds between 140 and 155 mph knocked out power to most of the island, ripped off roofs, snapped trees in half, and caused flooding. Maria is expected hit the Dominican Republic by tonight and then move to Turks and Caicos and Bahamas.
The island of Puerto Rico is completely without electricity, a spokesman from the governor's office said Wednesday. "We are 100% without power," the spokesman said.
