McCoy Tyner is, without a doubt, one of the most important jazz figures of all time. His influence is incalculable, having played on many seminal jazz albums and touring the world for almost sixty years, Tyner is by far one of the most recognisable players in improvisational music and one of the most respected and beloved American pianists. Tyner has been shaping the vocabulary of jazz piano since his appearance on the monumental John Coltrane album My Favorite Things. His tenure with Coltrane’s Quintet is widely regarded as being one of the most important and defining lineups in the history of American music. His instantly identifiable blue-infused style and aggressive left hand technique have spawned generation after generation of players and imitators. His discography has found him directing big bands, incorporating orchestral arrangements, and playing with nearly every important jazz artist of the past sixty years on nearly 80 albums. Tyner’s legend has never kept him from exploring new territory, even up to age 74. The McCoy Tyner Trio will be treating Austin music lovers to a special night of music at the One World Theatre on May 3, 2013. *Friday May 3, 2013 - 7:00 PM Tickets $41-81 One World Theatre 7701 Bee Caves Road
