On Tuesday morning the Academy Awards has announced the Oscar nominees for 2012.
With a nod for Best Picture, the silent, black and white tribute to
Hollywood “The Artist” has been dubbed the favorite. “The Artist” director, Michel Hazanavicius,
has a nod for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for his work on the
film. Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo
also received nods for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively for
their roles in “The Artist.”
Martin Scorcese’s “Hugo” earned 11 nominations.
“The Descendants” has also been nominated for Best Picture. The movie’s director, Alexander Payne, is
also nominated for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. The Best Adapted Screenplay is shared with
Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. George Clooney
has been nominated for Best Actor for his role.
“The Help” is also being considered for Best Picture. Viola Davis’ role has earned her a nod for
Best Actress, and Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer have been nominated for
Best Supporting Actress.
“Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” earned a surprising nod for
Best Picture, as well as “War Horse.” Kristen
Wiig, and Annie Mumolo of “Bridesmaids” got a nod for Best Original Screenplay. Melissa McCarthy is also being considered for
Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Bridesmaids.”
Rooney Mara from “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” received a
nomination for Best Actress, although director David Fincher did not receive a
nomination.
Terrence Malick of “The Tree of Life” is also being considered Best
Director while the film is on the nominees list for Best Picture.
