American Seniors Association Believes Obama’s Plan Does Not Protect Elderly
American
Seniors Association is not in favor of President Barack Obama’s health care
plan, stating that it doesn’t believe it truly protects
"President
Obama must think the American people are idiots if he thinks the health care
rationing, restrictions and regulations being debated in Congress will save
money and result in better preventative medicine," ASA President Stuart
Barton said in a statement.
"The
president told the AARP meeting that opponents are 'making people scared.'
Well, they ought to be scared at current proposals," he said, citing
congressional analysts' estimates that the plan will cost $1.2 to $1.8 trillion
over 10 years. "That's absurd in a recession, let alone good times."
ASA has
three major concerns about Obama’s health care plan. They believe a
government-run will limit patient- doctor choice and there will be an employer
mandate that would kill jobs and lower wages. In addition, ASA believes the
current legislation being debated attacks baby boomers and seniors by cutting
$500 billion out of Medicare over the next 10 years.
Thousands
of elderly citizens have publicly opposed Obama’s plan. ASA serves as another
option for seniors who are also disgruntled by the prospects of this health
care plan.
AARP is
running ads to support a health care overhaul and hosted Obama at an online
forum recently to promote his agenda to AARP members. However, by doing this,
many seniors believe that the organization supports Obama’s plan.
"They
see that the AARP has betrayed its membership in order to support 'reform' for
White House 'favors' in return," Barton wrote.
American
Seniors Association offers elderly citizens several quality services, such as
Medicare, insurance, prescription discounts and travel services.
