Following Tuesday night’s Democratic National Convention headline speech delivered by Hillary Clinton the Party will have a hard time matching the enthusiasm that swept through Denver’s Pepsi Center.
While Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer certainly made a name for himself with an enthusiastic call to the delegates and Mark Warner, Gov. of Virginia, delivered a strong keynote address, it was clear the night belonged to Clinton.
Despite Clinton’s call to Democrats to unite and elect Barack Obama there was certainly a sense that there were plenty of Clinton supporters who were left disappointed she wasn’t speaking on Thursday in place of Obama.
The Obama supporters will be hoping to shift the attention from Hillary to the Obama campaign on Wednesday but that could be difficult with former President Bill Clinton set to speak. Many Obama supporters are holding their breath in hopes the man who held the White House for eight years won’t block the way for Obama to serve his first four years.
Clinton is scheduled to address America’s security in today’s world, a topic many believe the former President did not want to address.
Also on tap will be Obama’s vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden who will be the prime-time headline speaker.
According to the official DNC Web site Wednesday’s will focus on the Obama plan for foreign policy and U.S. security. As stated on the DNC site, “Barack Obama offers a new, tough foreign policy that is neither Republican nor Democratic, but is a strong, smart American foreign policy to make our country more secure and advance our interests in the world. Wednesday night’s Convention program will feature the voices of Americans who share Barack’s vision of making America stronger and safer.”
Included in the list of speakers will beformer Senator Tom Daschle; Governor Bill Richardson and Senators Evan Bayh, John Kerry and Jay Rockefeller. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Convention home state Senator Ken Salazar, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, and Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) along with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Representative Patrick Murphy (D-PA) and Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth will lead a tribute honoring those who give so much to secure our nation’s future – veterans, active duty military and their families.
