Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) makes history on Wednesday, officially becoming the first African-American to lead his major party as the presidential nominee.
At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), his previous rival as a Democratic presidential candidate, urged for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to cut the delegates' roll call short and immediately nominate Obama to lead the Democratic Party ticky.
"Is there a second?" Pelosi of California asked the crowd of more than 4,400 delegates. The motion was seconded by a myriad of DNC delegates on the floor.
"The motion is adopted," Pelosi said, officially making history for Obama. The hit song "Love Train" ensued as DNC delegates hugged and cheered Obama's nomination.
On Tuesday night, Clinton urged her supporters to support Obama and his campaign during her speech in front of the DNC audience. "No way. No how. No McCain. Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our president," Clinton said.
On Wednesday, Clinton, who would've become the first woman to lead her major party's ticket, helped to make Obama's dream come true. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and vice presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) will each give a speech Wednesday night, capping off the momentous occasion.
Obama will officially accept the nomination on Thursday night at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver.
